Kiepe type SBW position switches are used in conveyor systems to monitor the misalignment of belt bucket elevators with metal buckets. In this function, they protect the belts and bucket elevator walls from damage or destruction in the event of misalignment and are mounted in pairs on mounting plates outside the bucket elevator at critical points. They require a metal-free zone The Kiepe position switch type SBW complies with the Low Voltage Directive 2014/35/EU, EMC Directive 2014/30/EU and RoHS Directive 2011/65/EU. 

Note Use in safety circuits is not permitted. The use of these devices in applications where the safety of persons depends on their function is not permitted.

As bucket elevator belt misalignment switches, the SBWs are mounted in pairs on a plastic mounting plate in front of the drive drum and in front of the return drum. An installation opening must be cut into the bucket elevator wall for this purpose. For optimum use of the switching distance, this opening should correspond to the specified metal-free zone. Smaller openings reduce the range. The switches must be arranged so that their active sensor surface is fully damped by the passing metal buckets. The switching distance is reduced for buckets with conical side walls. The correction factors for the switching distance given in the following table refer to complete damping of the switch. The switches are supplied from the factory as normally closed contacts. After loosening the PG screw connection and disconnecting the connection cable, the “normally open - normally closed” changeover switch becomes accessible.

Note If the switches are operated beyond their rated switching distance, both the switching hysteresis and the sensitivity to metal parts approaching from the side or rear will increase.
